Shawnigan Lake Pickleball held its inaugural Invitational tournament this past weekend, and we spoke with VIPB Official Paddle founder, Justin Butler. We also stopped by Topaz Park in Victoria to check out progress being made on the 11-court project.

Le Cornichon founder Justin Butler’s path to pickleball

Le Cornichon—Official Paddle of Vancouver Island Pickleball—founder Justin Butler calls himself a “serial entrepreneur,” resulting from, as he jokes, being “basically unemployable.” Last year, his girlfriend, Ainsley, convinced him to attend an open-play pickleball session at a local Calgary recreation centre.

Shawnigan Pickeball Invitational crowns inaugural champions

The Shawnigan Lake Pickleball Club hosted it’s inaugural Invitational, Sept. 20, 2025 at Shawnigan Lake Pickleball Club in Shawnigan Lake Village.
